Opening ceremony of the academic year 1948-1949 at the University of Porto, with special focus on the reading of the Activity Report by the Rector, and the keynote address presented by Professor Fernando Magano (here pictured during his speech). At the end of the ceremony, in the foyer of the Faculty of Sciences and Rectory, a monument by the sculptor João da Silva in honour of the students who died in the First World War was unveiled. Contains a photograph of the event.
Cerimónia de inauguração do ano lectivo de 1948-1949 na Universidade do Porto, destacando-se a leitura, feita pelo Reitor, do Relatório de Actividades, e a Oração de Sapiência proferida pelo Dr. Fernando Magano, retratado no uso da palavra. No final da cerimónia, no átrio do edifício da Faculdade de Ciências e Reitoria, procedeu-se ao descerramento do monumento do escultor João da Silva em homenagem aos alunos falecidos durante a 1.ª Guerra Mundial, com fotografia do evento.
