"Violence flared in whitehall this evening as police battled with demonstrators protesting against the Greek royal visit. Ambulances carried away casualties. And the battle ended with a mounted police charge on the crowds. Late this evening 94 arrests had been made. It all started after the demonstrators, organised the Committee of 100, had been refused permission to march down The Mall to Buckingham Palace. They wanted to protest outside the railings during a state banquet.
