A imagem retrata "Rhinelander Gardens", um conjunto de edifícios, varandas e jardins de estilo neo-gótico, projeto do arquitecto James Renwick, datado de 1854. A obra faz parte do mais conhecido trabalho fotográfico de Berenice Abbott, "Changing New York", realizado no âmbito do projeto Federal Arts Project (FAP), New York City, Work Progress Administration. A iniciativa funcionou entre 1935 e 1943 e apoiou quase uma centena de artistas das mais variadas áreas.
