Coletânea de documentos relativos à III Conferência Internacional do International Council on the Future of the University (ICFU), que se realizou em Lisboa, entre 27 e 30 de abril de 1981. Esta conferência teve como tema «The pursuit of truth in the eighties» e contou com apresentações sobre políticas públicas de investigação de que se conserva um conjunto (incompleto) de apresentações de especialistas nacionais e estrangeiros, entre os quais: José Manuel Toscano Rico («The evolution of university policy over the last 20 years», importante documento onde este apresenta uma síntese crítica do ensino universitário português), Eduardo Marçal Grilo («Higher Education in Portugal»),Raymond Polin, Peter Kielmansegg, Joseph Ben-David, Julio Villanueva, John Scott, S.
