Fotografia (prova a preto e branco). Retrato de Enrique Gaspar, sentado em banco com espaldar lateral. No cartão secundário, ao nível inferior, indicação do fotógrafo: "Afong, Photo. / Hong Kong". No verso, texto manuscrito em espanhol, assinado pelo retratado e dedicado a Bernardim Raposo de Sousa d'Alte Espargosa: "Al Sinor Don B. Raposo Espargosa/ Se marcha usted y lo siento;/ pero declaro así mismo/ que en la pena que alimento/ figura en mí el sentimiento/ por igual que el egoismo:/ Pues, por los que en marcha están/ si amargas lágrimas ruedan,/ los que así muestran su afan/ no lloran porque se van;/ sino porque ellos se quedan./Enrique Gaspar/ Enero 1884 - Macao". Enrique Lucio Eugenio Gaspar y Rimbau (Madrid, 2.03.1842 - Olorón, 7.09.1902), diplomático e escritor espanhol, autor de obras de teatro, zarzuelas e novelas. Filho de pais actores, estuda Humanidades e Filosofia em Valencia. Aos 21 anos, muda-se para Madrid e dedica-se a ser escritor entre 1868 e 1875, realizando obras nas quais criticava os valores burgueses. Foi pioneiro do Teatro social em Espanha. Publicou numerosos artigos, poesias e narrativas nas principais publicações periódicas da época, nomeadamente "La Época", "Blanco y Negro" e "Illustración espanola". Em 1865, casa com a aristocrata Enriqueta Battlés y Bertán de Lis. Após o nascimento do segundo filho, ingressa na carreira diplomática, por volta de 1870. Foi colocado na Grécia, em França e, de volta a Espanha, em Madrid. Posteriormente, exerceu o cargo de consul na China, primeiro em Macau e depois em Hong Kong. A par da sua carreira, continuou sempre a escrever e a publicar. Depois de ter estado em Hong Kong, regressa a Espanha, ficando em Olorón. Regressa a França, Marselha, como consul, onde a sua esposa veio a falecer. Já doente, volta para Espanha e instala-se em Olorón com a sua filha, genro e netos, onde veio a morrer com apenas 60 anos de idade. Tem dezenas de títulos publicados nas áreas do teatro e da narrativa, artigos vários e um livro de viagens. Destaca-se, em particular, a novela de ficção científica "El anacronopete", escrita em 1881 e publicada em 1887, na qual Enrique Gaspar "inventa uma máquina do tempo", adiantando-se portanto a H.G. Wells, considerado o percursor desta temárica com o seu famoso livro "A Máquina do Tempo", publicado em 1895, o que tem gerado muito recentemente alguma discussão no meio académico, na sequência da redescoberta deste autor espanhol.O escritor terá travado conhecimento com Bernardim Raposo de Sousa d'Alte Espargosa, em Macau, quando aí se encontrava a exercer funções como consul, e ter-lhe-á ofertado esta fotografia na hora da partida do português (1884), tendo em conta o teor do poema que lhe dedica. Bernardim Raposo de Sousa d'Alte Espargosa (Lisboa, 1859 - ?), filho de Francisco de Paula Raposo de Sousa d'Alte Espargosa e de Maria Benedita Pereira Palha de Faria Lacerda, casou com Maria de Jesus Xavier de Figueiredo de Melo e Oriol Pena, em Santarém, no ano de 1886, vindo a fixar-se em Torres Novas, onde foi detentor de vasto património fundiário. Tiveram um único filho, José Maria Raposo de Sousa d'Alte Espargosa (1886 - 1974), licenciado em Direito pela Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de Coimbra, em 1908, e que dedicou a vida à administração do património herdado de seus pais, em particular várias quintas com exploração agrícola significativa.Esta peça assume um valor patrimonial extraordinário na medida em que apresenta, no verso, poema muito provavelmente inédito, de Enrique Gaspar, assinado e datado.
